First Session for Couples
The first session, which lasts 75 minutes, is dedicated to you as a couple.
This time is essential for understanding the work we can do together. We must consider what expectations and needs should be fulfilled by the following therapy sessions.
Furthermore, it is essential to establish a communication based on trust, serenity, and empathy in a non-judgmental setting.

I use an integrated approach that begins with careful listening to your problems and narrative. The reasons that bring you into therapy, how you experience events, and how you reflect on them are as fundamental as the goals you want to achieve. Theories and approaches are not fixed theoretical schemes as a rigid mould. Instead, they are reference systems that must be adapted occasionally, with respect for the person, according to the therapist’s experience. This process is nourished by dialogue and reflection, and by giving room and time purposely dedicated.
During our sessions, depending on your needs, I will provide you with the tools that enable you to view typical life issues from a different perspective.
Suffering and difficulties, for example, loneliness, anxiety, depression, illness, unhealthy relationships, or insecurity, become an opportunity to discover potentialities you did not think you had before and to find the courage to face fears you did not want to look at. The sorrow will empower you to build different and meaningful life plans.

In romantic relationships, the traits that define the identity of two or more partners interact at various levels. Thus, different cultural traits, habits and mental patterns derived from the family of origin and life experiences are combined. Finally, mutual expectations, whether declared or implied, give meaning and motivation to the relationship, from daily living to collaboration on life projects.
This relationship is dynamic, given that, through the years and life, people change in all aspects mentioned above. The partners must work out, actively or passively, an ongoing balance that life experiences can sometimes challenge.
For example, a challenging period at work, moving to another city, organising a wedding, pregnancy, illness, the education of children, the need for an additional partner, or simply renovating the house can all undermine moods and compromise communication. As a result, expectations and needs change, perhaps only for one of the partners. The balance that once was solid is now in question.
Seemingly simple events can trigger violent contrasts and create a daily routine of conflict, anger, anguish, tension, boredom, depression and guilt to the point of resignation or indifference. It seems like a partner no longer appreciates the other. It is like living with a stranger who was previously
hilarious, funny, and caring, someone to make plans with, but now it is impossible to understand anymore.
In some cases, the couple succeeds in creating a new balance. However, such a crisis may last longer in other cases because nobody can make decisive decisions. Eventually, the result is to separate.
It is impossible to indicate a formula that can be adapted to everyone. However, therapy can help in the following examples:
Clarifying which aspects of the relationship are most problematic.
Achieving communication and applying behavioural techniques that can advance the relationship or overcome an impasse.
Improving couple intimacy.
Becoming aware of why there are problems by looking at them from different perspectives.
Differentiate what comes from life duties and the partners’ personalities.
Finding creative solutions.
Converting a difficult moment into an opportunity for a change.
Becoming conscious of choices that consider each partner's life plans.
Dealing with the burden of guilt.
Remember that learning to love and care has nothing to do with being perfect.
